HOW TO CREATE A NEW MOON RITUAL : 5 Simple Steps to add magic to your new moon beginning.

The new moon is a time of new beginnings and a perfect time for a fresh start. It is the moment to plant a seed for initiation of the thing(s) in your life that you want to grow! If you want to experience a shift in your love life, abundance, career, health, spirituality, mental health, or anything else, this is the time to make that wish and set the intention to make this wish come true. So if there is anything you’ve been wanting to grow or change in your life go ahead and read on to understand how you could make that happen during this new moon cycle.

A little background about moon rituals before we get started:

It is believed that the new moon offers us the energy of initiation and intention setting. Just as the the new moon sheds away its entire being during the waning phase of its cycle, we also go through phases of growth and shedding. Just like seasons of the year, if you will. The new moon energy then grows and grows (spring and summer) and then it completes its cycle and returns to new again (fall and winter).

The new moon aids us in shedding away old energy, in order to start fresh. By letting go of all our toxic habits and negative thoughts or beliefs, we too can start anew. It is believed to be the best time to start a new project or go on a cleanse. Coming up with a ritual that is meaningful and specific to you (instead of following a set guide of instructions) is important because it will impact you more deeply and set the tone for the entire cycle.

So with that in mind, let’s get you started with your NEW MOON RITUAL:

Step 1:

Find some quiet time and space to yourself. At least a few hours if not the entire day. New Moon Rituals are preferably done outside, so that you can connect with nature better, but if you must do it inside, find a clean quiet space where you will not be disturbed.

Step 2:

Get relaxed, and in a mindful state of awareness with a bit of meditation, a nice long bath, and/or yoga. Burn a bit of sage or palo santo to cleanse the space. Use it around your own body, and in the space of your ritual. Clear your mind with meditation, using music or just quieting down in your cleared, sacred area.

Step 3:

After you’ve cleared your space and settled your energy, you are now ready to start setting your intentions! Make a short list (1-3) things you would like to draw into your life. Don’t be afraid to DREAM BIG! The new moon is a time to capture and visualize the dream of manifesting your heart’s deepest desires. Even if it seems far out there or out of reach from your current reality. This is the first step to making that dream a reality. As you write them down, make sure you write them as intentions, not just wishes. The difference is key: a wish leaves you powerless whereas an intention gives you all the power to create the vision! Write about how it would look and feel to have these things in your life.

Example: I intend to manifest more fun in my relationship. Having more fun with my partner would be the best feeling ever. We will go on new exciting dates together, take a trip to a new city, play pretend and laugh at all our silly inside jokes together, and have playful flirty chemistry between us all the time. I would feel so alive and sexy having this kind of fun with my partner. I intend to manifest all this amazing fun and flirty-ness between us!

Step 4:

This step can be optional but it can really ramp up the effectiveness of the ritual. Here's where you get to be creative! If your intention is to start a new podcast or to create a new website for your business, you could get a flying lantern or a helium balloon and write on it your intentions or ideas and set it out into the sky! If you want to let in more love in your life, you could put a rose quartz (if you have crystals) or something like lavender or roses into a small pouch, setting the intention with the qualities you are looking to attract. Have fun with it! If you're feeling inspired, add any symbolic act to your intention-setting ritual that makes you feel connected to that intention even more.

Step 5:

Now an important part of new moon intentions is what happens after. If you just “set it and forget it” don’t expect to see much of a change in this area of your life. What you want to do is try to keep them at the forefront of your mind. Spending maybe 5 minutes per day setting your tone for the day in the morning and reminding yourself of the kind of energy you want to bring forth can make all the difference. Another thing you can do is paste sticky notes around your home or keep a little note in your wallet. Make moves towards these changes! And don’t forget to celebrate any positive outcomes!
