Coconut water is hydrating is extra hydrating and it contains two essential minerals that help the body stay in balance--sodium and potassium. Coconut oil is the perfect skin moisturizer as it is easily absorbed by the body. By brushing your skin first, you are opening the pores and allowing the complete absorption to penetrate deep and heal your dry skin.

2. Aloe Vera

We can’t say enough good things about this magical plant! Aloe is a potent anti-inflammatory food and topical that promotes hydration and general health. When consumed in food or juice, it heals your gut and promotes healthy digestion. It is especially good if you experience constipation regularly. When the aloe gel taken directly from the leaves of the plant is used topically, it has been known to heal sunburns, cuts, wounds, and scrapes in a short time! Aloe Vera’s anti-inflammatory benefits reach as far as reducing acne, and improves the elasticity of your skin to reduce those fine lines and wrinkles with antioxidants like beta-carotene, vitamin c, and vitamin E.

Our favorite way to use Aloe Vera is to drink the juice when we are having tummy troubles. AND in DIY face masks! Here is a great recipe for you to try:

Try to eat a handful of your favorite berry with breakfast, or pureed into a smoothie first thing in the morning! We also recommend trying some DIY face masks with blueberries!

A happy gut equals happy skin! Our fascination with fermented foods doesn’t end with just a happy gut and healthy mind, but also to great skin! Did you know eating fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, can prevent blemishes and outbreaks by helping the skin cells begin repair? The key ingredient is natural probiotics! MSM can be consumed in food or in powder form. The powder can be purchased online and taken in the morning with a glass of water or juice to begin. Plant foods that are usually high in MSM include brussel sprouts, onions, asparagus, legumes, kale and garlic.

7. Avocado

Avocado lovers rejoice!! Another splendid reason to eat avocados daily! Avocados are twice as high in potassium than bananas, and of course, very rich in fats! The best kind! This along with their vitamin E will assist our skin in producing all the collagen and to enhance the texture of our skin! Avocados contain many of the B vitamins and vitamin C which are all excellent for skin health! We suggest eating half a large avocado daily and try them in a face mask too! We love Turmeric because it does it all! It fights acne, lessens acne scars, improves skin conditions, provides sun-protection and anti-aging! Our favorite recipe with turmeric is golden milk! Cacao, first of all, does not make your skin break out! It is quite on the contrary, actually. The amount of polyphenol antioxidants are in the same category of red wine and green tea and they are protecting our skin from premature aging due to free radicals. Cacao has more than 40 times the amount of antioxidant as blueberries! And even more interesting, applying it topically can have similar benefits as ingesting it! Researchers have discovered the effects of cacao go as far as increasing blood flow, skin density, and healthy hydration. You can find many at home face masks using raw cacao powder. Why not give it a try? Your boyfriend might even want to lick it off your face! It is an aphrodisiac too, after all, and sex too is quite beneficial for the skin. As we go through our day, we can make a mental note of which colors we have consumed, and try to reach for the rainbow!

Foods that are red are usually high in vitamin C. Plant foods that are green contain chlorophyll, which is a big player by replenishing red blood cells, which can improve energy, increasing blood flow and oxygen in blood and improving digestion. Blue or Purple foods are known to contain some of the highest levels of antioxidants (hello blueberries!) And yellow/orange foods are a good source of vitamin C! (plus, they usually contain beta-carotene, which can help improve digestive health and vision.) The nutrients in colorful foods can cleanse and detox our bodies, purify our bloodstream and provide rich nutrients for which to build strong cells that resist aging!
